Week 2 of Quarantine -- Making the most out of our time.

Well, we've made it through another week and this time quarantine got real with a Stay Home Executive Order in place for all in the State of Michigan and other places across the US and the world.  I've been able to keep the child's anxiety in check, mainly because I've worked incredibly hard to keep mine in check with her during the day. But it's hard, we all know it's not just for the greater good but for the health of everyone around us.  I don't want to be the one to make a decision on who gets medical services and who doesn't.  No one else should either so I can stay home.

Now, we do leave the house and for that I'm grateful.  I've gotten the child to start a Couch to 5k program as we were supposed to do Girls on the Run this Spring but that, like most things, has been cancelled so now we're doing it together.  She complains and whines but she does enjoy it...or at least has me believing she enjoys it.  Trying to keep her occupied has been difficult and again, we're only on week 2.

The bright side is, I'm still working on coding and trying to figure out what I want to do in the next decade of my life.  I'll be turning 40 during this quarantine...more than likely.  And I want to figure out how to live my best life.  This is what I'm trying to do with my time...figuring out the next part of my journey. So I'm taking advantage of all the free coursework that's become available and looking to see where I'm headed next.

As of today, the quarantine hasn't been extended past April 13th yet but there's a safe assumption it will be, just like schools being closed for the rest of the year.  All of it will be done and it's a good thing, not for the teachers or the students or the parents that are stressed out but for the people who never take the time to stay at home with their families.  Kids and pets have seen their homes and their adults in their homes more in the last two weeks than many see in months.  This is a good thing and something we should cherish.  Yes, it's hard and it will continue to be hard but, honestly, I needed it and I think others did too.

In my house, we're learning life skills including keeping to a schedule in order to get school work done.  We also are working on cooking skills and trying new recipes.  The child is starting to understand what the dishwasher is for...something that is a new concept for some reason.  She's also begun to figure out the laundry.  I think this is good for her and for me...we make decisions on other things with the team approach so now it's going to be the same for household chores and for that I'm grateful.

Running, on the other hand, has been good but not always as productive as before.  I've hit over 80 miles this month but I've slowed down and done a regular daily run with a long run or two thrown in throughout the week.  I've never been more grateful for that and for those that continue to support me in the running arena.  If I, and others, didn't have these people, I'm not sure we would be doing as well as we are.  I'm not saying it's perfect but it helps.  That's the key to this whole pandemic, helping one another and figuring things out as we can.

  1. Ohio is on State mandated lockdown as well. We are in MI for the moment, but I am definitely going to need to better game plan with the youngest on outdoor activity. She has her dance classes virtually, thankful. She also uses Facetime with friends. The weather has allowed her to use her skateboard a few times. I want to cook with her.
